Elvis is reaching for you!

Fairpark centers on a public plaza, and the center of that plaza features this statue of Tupelo’s most famous native, Elvis Presley.

The statue was inspired by a well-known photograph of Elvis performing at the fairgrounds in 1956. The photo by Roger Marshutz, popularly known as “The Hands”, shows Elvis leaning over his microphone just out of reach of the outstretched hands of his fans.

The statue was dedicated on August 9, 2012 in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Elvis’ death in 1977.

This visit to the Elvis Presley statue at Fairpark was just before attending a concert by Elton John at the BancorpSouth Arena across the street.

[Sight of the Day] My Three Bikes

Saturday, September 1, 2012 (Germantown TN)—Here’s a sight that occurred today for the first time and may never be seen again: all three of my bikes in the garage at one time. With el Bandido about to be up for sale and the Silver Bullet recently sold, the Blue Bolt should be bunking alone before long.

The bikes:

  • 2003 Suzuki Bandit 1200S (GSF1200S) in Metallic Surf Green—el Bandido Cerceta (the Teal Bandit)
  • 2010 Yamaha FJR1300 (FJR13AZS) in Liquid Silver—The Silver Bullet
  • 2012 Yamaha FJR1300 (FJR13ABL) in Cobalt Blue—The Blue Bolt

[Sight of the Day] Blue Bolt’s Touring Trunk Installed

Thursday, August 30, 2012 (Germantown TN)—My birthday was made even a little bit better by getting the touring trunk installed on the Blue Bolt.

I’m not a fan of the way any top case looks on a sport tourer, but at least the OEM version is color-matched and key-matched.

And this case will definitely give me another option for longer trips or perhaps even local runs to the grocery store.

And so, with apologies to the Black Eyed Peas:

“What you gonna do with all that junk? / All that junk inside your trunk? / You got me spendin’ / Spendin’ all my money.”
