Wonderful commentary, Steve. When I first saw the picture with your posting, I thought to myself, "no wonder he liked the show - Morticia's about to fall out of her dress!" Your Full Disclosure is very similar to the final trip we made with my grandmother's ashes....I'll share with you sometime.

Comment on Hidden Memphis: The Memphis-Arkansas Bridge by Sven

I'm not an expert in the matter, but based on my research it's probably more correct to say that bridge was not built to withstand an earthquake, and the cost of retrofitting would be unreasonably expensive.

Since there are several ways to retrofit a structure to withstand earthquakes, one of the methods would probably be suitable, but all would be expensive. Replacing the bridge outright could be a more economical solution, as would routing all commercial traffic to the I-40 bridge.

The I-40 Hernando DeSoto Bridge was built without earthquake resistance, but the bridge and its elevated approaches have been undergoing retrofitting for the past 12 years.

When the Charles W. Dean Bridge is completed (linking Benoit, MI and Arkansas City, AR), it will be the crossing for I-69. Perhaps that interstate will reduce the amount of long-distance traffic on the I-55 bridge.

Either way, I would not particularly like to be on any bridge during an earthquake!

My understanding is the Memphis & Arkansas Bridge (old bridge) cannot be retro-fitted for earthquake protection !!

Yeah, like today's article mentioned, it doesn't look that bad considering...
Thanks for sharing and reviving the memories of stopping at the light at Central and Hollywood many times growing up and just marveling at the plane. Didn't know the history at the time but just thought it was cool to have a bomber on the corner!

Well, maybe better dialog; it just seemed forced at times.

Of course, the situation was such that there couldn't be much drama--it was just an afternoon of singing, after all, unlike say, Jersey Boys, which covered the careers of the Four Seasons.

Funny...I didn't expect you to want less dialog! More music and less narrative would have taken any pretense of being a drama and turned into a "tribute artist" concert.

I could have done with less narrative and more music. Some of the exposition ground things to a halt. And I wished they hadn't kept breaking into "Great Balls of Fire" with dialogue. However, I suppose that fit with the structure of the story, since in the spangled jacket section, each of the three singer/guitarists got a number before everyone exited, leaving Jerry Lee to come back out and milk the crowd for "Whole Lotta Shakin'." I was wondering why poor Jerry didn't seem to be getting his big number--for all that he'd pretty much stolen the show already.

Shaun, I have to wonder how the various styles of the movies can be pulled together into one Avengers movie, but arguably, Marvel faces the same challenge in print. We'll see...
